Timberline Old Town

Sunday morning teachings and guest speakers from Timberline Old Town. At Timberline Old Town we gather to remind each other who we are…that we are all created in the image of God and have chosen to accept that, accept God’s love, take care of each other, and participate in God’s kingdom as followers of Jesus Christ.

These are the weekend teachings from Timberline Old Town Church in Ft. Collins, CO. Darren Fred is the primary communicator, though there are a smattering of guests spread here and there. Also, check out the Speaking of Art segments. We love art, we love what artists have to say about art. For more info about who we are, visit timberlineoldtown.org.

Tempus Per Annum means "Time Throughout The Year". In the liturgical church calendar, it is known as Ordinary Time - the long stretch between Easter and Advent. This is sometimes a grind and sometimes exhilarating and always Holy. We want to settle in and recognize this time of between.

TEXT:

Phillipians 4:4-9

TAKEAWAYS:

  • Start a conversation with someone in your orbit who you don’t know and think you don’t want to know. It doesn’t have to be heavy right off. Ask good questions.
  • Re-engage with someone you used to love and with whom you used to agree, but now maybe you don’t. Again, it doesn’t have to start off heavy. Ask good questions.

  • Listen to or read someone with whom you disagree. Do so with an open heart.

  • Before doing any of this, pray the Jesus prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us.

  • Next time you are angry and your fingers are on the keyboard or the words are heading for your mouth, stop.

    You can stop, stop, stop.

For a girl can someday be a lady, and a boy can someday be a man.

Time - the long stretch between Easter and Advent. This is sometimes a grind and sometimes exhilarating and always Holy. We want to settle in and recognize this time of between.

TEXT:

Psalm 8:1-2

Micah 6:8

TAKEAWAYS:

  • Laugh
  • Make someone else laugh
  • Relax
  • Help someone else relax
  • Three times in the next week:
    • Sit still in silence for five minutes, with nothing on the agenda but being open to what the Lord may - or may not - have for you.

BENEDICTION:

For anyone who says yes to Jesus

For anyone who

believes what Jesus said

For anyone who

will just reach out to take it

Then God will give them

 this wonderful gift:

To be born into

A whole new Life

To be who they really are

Who God always made them to be --

Their own true selves --

God’s dear

Child.

BENEDICTION:

May love be stronger in us than the fear of the pain that comes with caring.

May we learn to make good out of what we're given Rather than only make sense of it.

May we find freedom in limitation- to fully give ourselves to what we can do rather than worry about what we cannot.

May we have the courage to believe that everything we do matters.

Amen.

John 6:1-15

TAKEAWAYS:

  • What for you is essential, what is good, what is trivial in this season?
  • Where is Jesus inviting you to trust him with the seemingly impossible?
  • Where are you? What do you have? Who are you with?

Consider sharing answers with a friend.

Psalm 77:1-6a

  • Think about songs that have been there for your times
  • Listen to them again...and remember
  • Listen to Asaph by Loudharp

REPENTANCE AS PROTEST

Father, forgive us

For the hate that we deny
